Local Music

I was grabbing a coffee at Mocha 101 (the coffee shop across the street from my house), and was pleasantly surprised to see some live music happening. I'm mostly gone on the weekends, but I guess they have live jazz there every weekend. It was cool to see a lot of people from the neighborhood there too. Sometimes in a big city you lose the feeling of community, so this was really nice. Thanks Mocha 101!

Avett Brothers @ the Fillmore

Alexis and I saw the Avett Brothers at the Fillmore tonight. It was a good show, and they are really fun live. I have been feeling like a slave lately, so it was nice to get out of my house too.

Audrye Sessions @ Bottom of the Hill

I took photos of the Audrye Sessions at their sold out show at Bottom of the Hill. I am excited to hear about all of the exposure that they are getting lately. If you haven't heard them yet, you should check them out HERE, so that you can say you were a fan before they blew up. Here are some of the shots:

Audrye Sessions

I took photos for the Audrye Sessions' headline show at the Great American Music Hall. You can see more photos HERE.
Michael is Laila's boyfriend, and Laila and my girlfriend Alexis are roommates, so we all hang out together pretty often. Michael plays guitar in the Audrye Sessions. These next few shots show the backstage happenings before the show.

The show was awesome, and they sounded great!

Strung Out

I was really excited to see Strung Out in Santa Barbara this weekend. This was my favorite band all through high school, and when I started thinking about it, I realized that they are still my favorite band of all time. They were as good as ever, and they played all of the old songs that I love - I like their new stuff too though. Strung Out rocks!!

Joshua James

I learned about this guy pretty recently, and I noticed that he was playing in SF. It was a really small intimate show at the Hotel Utah. Joshua's voice is very unique and his lyrics have an honest melancholy twist that I enjoy. You can hear his music on MYSPACE.

Rocky Votolato and Owen

I saw a really awesome show at the Bottom of the Hill tonight. Rocky Votolato was the headliner, and Mike Kinsella (stage name Owen) opened. They were both really good. The only thing that could have been better, would have been if it was less crowded. It felt like they over sold the place by like 100 people. It was packed!
This is Owen. You can hear his music on his MYSPACE.
I really like this shot of the lights. It is pretty abstract, but sweet in its own way.
I have listened to Rocky's cd, The Brag and Cuss, so many times, and even though he played more songs from his other cds, it was still really cool to him live.
It was so packed. I had no idea he was that popular.
This is my favorite shot of the night:
Say it like you mean it, or if you don't mean it, it's not worth saying. Right? I love emotion in any kind of music. Listen to Rocky on his MYSPACE.

Jimmy Eat World

I saw Jimmy Eat World last night at the Fillmore! I love this band! I have seen them 3 other times, and every time has been AMAZING! They sounded better than their cds, which it is unusual for a live performance to be that good. Some of the songs that they played were: hear you me, goodbye sky harbor, chase this light, 23, disintegration, and blister. So good!!

The Everybodyfields

I saw a really cool band tonight called the Everybodyfields at the Independent here in SF. They sounded so beautiful and melancholy. I loved every song they played :) You can hear then on their website or on myspace. If you like alt-country,  I think you might like them. You can also see more photos in the slideshow I made HERE.

Crystal Castles

I saw Crystal Castles at the Independent in SF last night. It was lots of fun, but they played a really short set. I saw them play while I was in New York earlier this year, and it was way crazier. It was still tons of fun. Listen to their music on MYSPACE  if you want more electro/dance music in your life.

Rilo Kiley

I was super stoked to see Rilo Kiley at the SF Design Center last night. They were awesome! Rilo Kiley is one of those bands that I've been wanting to see for a while, and it just never worked out, but last night was really cool. The opening band was also cool too - Wispertown 2000. My phone didn't pull any cool pics this time, sorry. Stock photo:
